Bahati MP, Kimani Ngunjiri yesterday joined Bahati women groups in in his constituency to help them in the table banking concept.
The initiative is aimed at boosting the women in terms of funding and empowering them. The groups have been raising money to help their members start small businesses.
Ngunjiri said he will ensure that there is a cooperative society for the youths and women in the five wards in the constituency that will go a long way in empowering them financially. He added that there will be a fundraiser at the end of this month that will see various groups take home a bigger share.
“We have more than 126 women groups here that have been doing table banking. Am requesting these groups not to release the money to their members first so that they can present it during the fundraiser on October 30. The money that we will raise on top of that will be shared equally among all the groups,” Kimani said.
Kimani who also donated money to youth groups dismissed the ongoing referendum push saying it is a way of destabilising the government.
“Today we have given money to youth groups and we even gave one young man who hawks eggs more than forty thousand. So there is already a lot of money in the grassroots and people should forget about the ‘pesa mashinani’ because it is just a way of bringing down the government,” said Kimani.
