Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has opposed the controversial two thirds gender Bill set to be voted for on Thursday in Parliament.
Ngunjiri said passing the bill will give a leeway to women to start earning when they are nominated to the august House yet their functions as nominated members do not impact the society.
“They will go to Parliament and start earning their salaries yet their role as nominated members is not felt on the ground,” he said Tuesday during an interview with Kameme FM.
The MP further stated that every leader should earn his position through election by the public.
He said he was elected by women of Bahati and as such, he will not let them down by supporting the bill.
“I want to be very categorical and say that whether a man or a woman, we should go to the field and ask for votes from our people and we will get elected so it is not a matter of being a woman or a man here,” he said.
He claimed that on Thursday when the bill is tabled for a vote, many MPs will be absent to avoid passing it but for him, he will be in Parliament and stand his ground which is "shooting it down."
