The Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation Bahati branch has defended Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru, condemning those who want her out.

Speaking at Bahati trading centre on Thursday, the women, led by their leader Njeri Gitama said that those opposed to Waiguru do not have the interests of women and children at heart.

"What the cabinet secretary is doing is beneficial to both women and their children," she said.

She added: “Divisive politics is being used to fight Waiguru and development in general. The end result is women suffering. For example, the burning of a clinic in Kibera will make women suffer most as they are the ones who frequently use the facility,” said Njeri.

Njeri added that the issue of the National Youth Service (NYS) is seen as pulling down women who are making progress in leadership and in development.

“We will stand firm to defend these women. The development the cabinet secretary is initiating is meant to benefit all Kenyans of all walks of life. If everyone values a woman’s place in the society, then we should all join hands to support development,” she said.
