Bahati constituency is among those that have registered huge success in eradicating poverty and creating self-employment, thanks to the constituency Uwezo Fund.

Speaking at Kiamaina grounds during the presentation of the cheques amounting to Sh1.72 million, area MP Kimani Ngunjiri praised women groups and youths for embracing the project.

“I want to thank the people who have embraced this project in a fight to eradicate poverty and create more jobs to our youth, women and people with disabilities. We have further increased the amount to give out in this phase in order to reach more people as we release Sh1.72 million,” Kimani said.

He presented the cheques to 12 groups which comprised two youth groups and 10 women groups with each receiving between Sh50,000 and Sh200,000.

Some of those set to benefit immensely form this funding include Tealan group comprising teachers from Lanet Primary School which received Sh200,000.

"We started poultry keeping and running table-banking services with Sh170,000 revolving fund. We repaid our loan in just 8 months. Our loan returned a 100 per cent profit" M Elizabeth Muchai, the group’s chairlady, said.

Others who benefitted from the funding include Happy Mothers from Dundori Ward, Maili Sita Youth group among others.
