Tourism Cabinet Secretary (CS) Najib Balala has expressed optimism that the Supreme Court will throw out three petitions that have been filed challenging President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta’s win in the October 26 repeat poll.Addressing journalists at Mama Ngina Secondary School on Tuesday, Balala said the petitions filed by former MP Harun Mwau, activists Njonjo Mue and Khelefe Khalif do not hold any water. The petitioners argue that the repeat poll was not conducted in conformity with the constitution and the law as ordered by the Supreme Court and want Uhuru’s win nullified. The former Mvita MP termed the petitions as a waste of time and resources, arguing that Uhuru won fairly in the repeat poll.Balala said the October 26 repeat poll was conducted within the confines of the law and as ordered by the Supreme Court when it nullified the August 8 presidential election.“We are confident that the Supreme Court will uphold Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory in the October 26 repeat poll so that he can continue to build the nation,” said Balala. The Tourism CS said the country needs to move, adding that the election mood has slowed down the economy.“The country’s economy and investment has suffered for the past six months and its time we put the election mood aside and concentrate on growing our country,” he added.
