Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has said reckless talk by a section of politicians is likely to affect the country’s economy in different ways.
The CS has called upon politicians to avoid negative rhetoric as the nation looks forward to the next general election.
Balala also urged leaders from various parts of the nation to stop undermining the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) ability to conduct free and fair elections come 2017.
He said remarks being made by some politicians during political rallies in the recent past, can lead to a repeat of the 2008 post-election violence, where several citizens lost their lives.
Balala challenged leaders to conduct peaceful campaigns as they eye different seat in 2017.
“Let us not talk about elections lightly or try to speak so badly about an institution that we ourselves have built. We remember what was seen in 2008 with the loss of many lives. Do we want to go back there?” he said, as quoted by The Star.
