Balambala legislator Abdikadir Aden has criticized the government for exploiting the current drought situation in the county to gain political milestones.
Citing the Sunday case in Kuno area, the vocal MP condemned the use of relief food to entice locals to join the ruling Jubilee party.
"Kuno locals were on Sunday asked to join Jubilee party in order to get the relief food and water that they urgently need during this time of hardship. The act is unacceptable,” he disclosed in statement.
Abdikadir said drought intervention programmes is a responsibility constitutionally tasked to the national government, and that it should never be used as a political scheme.
“Aden Duale should stop taking Garissa residents for a ride. We might be very thirsty and hungry, but we fully know our rights. Relief food donations and water distributed by the state is not a favour or a privilege to locals,” added Aden.
The MP added that no amount of pressure or threats would force the people of Balambala constituency or the entire North Eastern to vote for Jubilee aspirants in exchange for the relief food.
