The first batch of ballot papers to be used in the October 26 repeat presidential election have arrived in the country.

The ballots arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Saturday night aboard an Etihad plane.

According to the Star, the papers are for ten counties and will also cater for voters in the diaspora.

Officials at the IEBC said they gave priority to the ten counties which are furthest from Nairobi so as to avoid delays on election day.

They counties include Marsabit, Wajir, Isiolo, Mandera, Garissa, Samburu, Turkana and Laikipia.

IEBC revealed that they now await the second batch that will arrive on Monday at 5pm, with the consignment having ballot papers for 22 counties.

The third and final delivery will be made on Tuesday at 10 am and will cater for the remaining 15 counties.

The ballots arrive at a time the country is not sure whether the election will take place or not.

NASA leader Raila Odinga has remained adamant that there will be no election, urging his strongholds to boycott the event.

On the other hand, President Uhuru Kenyatta has insisted the election will  take place as scheduled by the IEBC.
