A Non Governmental Organisation want politicians and civil servants to be barred from transacting business with the government to reduce cases of corruption.
The International Centre for Policy and Conflict Executive Director Ndung'u Wainaina says holders of public offices should not be allowed to do business with the state, directly or indirectly.
"This should start with cleaning the procurement process. Too much is tendered but some of the worst corruption is not tendered. These people have turned to be beneficiaries of unscrupulous tenders by using back door," said Wainaina on Wednesday in Nairobi.
He also said state institutions should be required to keep a transparent public register of entities doing business with them for the public to scrutinise.
"We are calling for the establishment of an Office of Government Accountability to investigate conflicts of interest when companies do business for the government and public servants stand to gain from the deals," he said.
Ndung'u's remarks come in the wake of various corruption scandals involving public officials and state agencies.
The Sh5.3 billion Afya House scandal implicated a number of President Uhuru Kenyatta's relatives.
