The Maendeleo Ya Wanaume Organization is appealing to government to ban on public video shows.
Organization Chairman Nderitu Njoka, blamed the public video shows for the reported increase in sexually related crimes among teenagers adding that they should be banned with immediate effect.
‘’The unrestricted viewing of sexually explicit material and violence in the public video shows is having a dangerous effect on the youth,’’ he added.
The organization’s Njoka added has established that the video dens are allowing children as young as 5 years to view the movies which have adult content.
‘’Just like those people who sell drugs those running such establishment are motivated by the urge to make a quick buck and do not think about the consequences,’’ he said.
Addressing press in Naivasha, Njoka said the shows are also to blame for violent behavior among boys who are likely to replicate what they have seen at home and school.
He accused the government of failing to regulate the public viewing of the video shows despite the danger posed to the society.
"The video dens are not only corrupting the morals of our youths but they area also a major security risk,’’ he added.
Njoka at the same time called on the government to sensitize men on the consequences of the Sexual Offences Bill. He said his organization was shocked to find out that most men do not know about the bill.
‘’The bill has tough sentences for sexual offenders yet a majority of men do not have an inkling on what it is all about,’’ he added.
Njoka however lauded the government for forming a task force to deliberate on how the Sexual offences act should be implemented.
