Bandits believed to be from Tiaty, Baringo County on Friday stole at least 30 cows and shot one person in Kaben, Marakwet East.
This is despite the reinforced security in the Kerio Valley by the national government.
Area Chief Joseph Lokanda said the police went after the over 20 armed bandits but failed to recover the stolen cows.
“Police who were at patrol in Mon rushed to the scene and established that about 20 Pokot herders met with herders at Turkwel Power line and a fierce exchange of fire ensued,” said police boss Lemmy Njiru.
Njiru said Timothy Chemweno, the victim, was rushed to Mogil Dispensary after being shot on the thighs by the bandits.
At least 50 people have been killed in the region since March 2016.
The government has deployed over 400 police officers and 300 reservists to restore calm in the Kerio Valley.
