Subukia Member of Parliament Nelson Gaichuhie said that more banks and other big corporate bodies must also come up with programmes like Wings to Fly as part of their corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Speaking in Subukia town on Friday evening, Gachuhie said that the Wings to Fly initiative has helped thousands of poor students since its inception and more poor students could be helped if more banks had similar initiatives.

“If all banks in the country can have their own Wings to Fly programme then over 20,000 students from poor families would be getting sponsorship every year and it would help in ensuring that no bright child misses out on secondary education due to lack of school fees,” said Gaichuhie.

He added: “We have so many corporate bodies which make huge annual profits even more than what Equity Bank makes and if Equity can sponsor over 2,000 students with the little they have then such corporate can sponsor even more.”

Gaichuhie said the best way through which corporate bodies can give back to the society is by sponsoring needy students because such sponsorship will be remembered for life because of the impact it will have on the lives of the beneficiaries.

He thanked Equity Bank for its programme ad urged all those who benefited to take the sponsorship seriously and study hard.
