The Baptist Convention of Kenya has called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta to resolve land issues in the Coast region.
The faithful have urged the Head of State to intervene and end the ever increasing cases of land and property grabbing in various parts of the county over years.
The convention, which comprises of over 3,000 churches and schools all over the nation, said land issues have affected the lives of the people of Mombasa and other counties.
Speaking on behalf of the brethren, Gilbert Kabage, a trustee and the secretary to the convention’s board, pointed out that three of its schools in Mombasa are being claimed by the county government under unclear circumstances.
He said Kisauni Baptist, Kiembeni Baptist and St John’s First Baptist in Likoni among the affected schools.
He said that Kiembeni Baptist School has faced controversy for more than ten years, adding that the defunct Municipal Council of Mombasa took over the school in 2003, forcing the church to seek the court's intervention.
The land issue still remains a great challenge at the Coast, despite the government’s effort to end the same.
