Two bar maids who worked at a members club owned by Egerton University lecturers residing in Njoro town were arrested in connection with fraud and theft on Friday. Njoro Police boss Patrick Lai said that the two Monicah Mumbi and Eunice Wamboi were arrested on Friday evening after the club’s manager Pius Wasike reported to police that they had conspired to defraud the club of over Sh40,000, in a span of one month. He added that the bar maids took advantage of long absence of most members and managers of the club during the December holiday who had traveled up country to perpetrate the crime. Police have launched investigations into the matter and as soon as investigations are complete the suspects will be taken to court said the police boss. He said according to the statement recorded by the Good Will Members Club manager, the bar maids have failed to account for amounts of upto Sh40,000 expected from the sale of beer, soft drinks and cigarettes as per the last- in stock taken in November last year while sales records have been tampered with to reflect untrue sales amounts. “We are questioning them and we will also record statements from other workers and managers of the club to establish the weight of the criminal allegations,” said Lai.
