Bar owners in Gatundu North are faced with tough times ahead following the recent warning from the area sub county commissioner Daniel Nyamiti.

Nyamiti on Friday announced tough conditions for the existing and prospective dealers in alcoholic beverages. According to him, bar owners should locate their premises 300 meters away from educational institutions where defaulters risk arrest and permanent cancellation of their trade licenses.

Nyamiti pointed out that dealers in liquor business are set to undergo rigorous security and health checks all geared towards effecting sale of only licensed liquor.

At the same time, Nyamiti posed stiff penalties to adults who access bars in the company of minors where bar owners who permit the underage in their premises will also not be spared.

"It’s time to fully react. Alcohol-related deaths must not happen again as long as am in power. Those in the alcohol business must be ready to adhere to these guidelines lest they quit for other ventures. We must protect and respect our values as human beings by consuming legal products," he said in his Kamwangi office.

Nyamiti said that the laws were not cast on stone and the public must also be ready to adhere them. He hailed the county assembly of Kiambu for working with speed and passing a number of laws which would help streamline eradication of outlawed brews in the county.
