Over 1000 Baraget forest settlers have been given a seven days’ notice to evacuate the forest or be forcefully evicted by the county government.
Kuresoi deputy county commissioner Silas Gitobu said that after the seven days ultimatum nobody will be spared noting that the forest, which is a major water tower in the region, cannot be destroyed by individuals as the government watched.
Speaking in Baraget shopping centre on Friday, Gitobu said this is in the process of conserving forests and nobody should interfere with move.
"The government is in the process of conserving forests and nobody should interfere with the process," said Gitobu.
He told forest occupants to leave the forest in peace and go to their original home.
"I think everybody has a home and should not ask me where to go. If you want to be shown where to go, wait for the seven days," he said.
Area senior forest guard Peter Nyambati said after the seven days’ ultimatum houses will be torched, crops destroyed and those who will resist will face full force of the law.
