Barclays Bank has carried forward with their plan to close down seven branches starting October 1. 

The banks Queensway branch which is located along Nairobi's Moi will be replaced by Naivas Supermarket who have announced that they will open their stores in November.

Barclays' Moi Avenue Branch, Haile Selassie Branch, Waiyaki way Branch, Kawangware Branch, Ruhimtulla Branch, Nakumatt Meru Branch and Wundanyi Branch in Voi were all among the listed of branches the bank announced would be closed.

However, Managing Director Jeremy Awori has assured the employees that they will be taken care of.

“This is a consolidation move aimed at aligning our business to the current environment," he said.

According to Awori the employees will be redeployed.

“We have briefed the impacted colleagues and HR will help them make a smooth transition as the change takes effect. I would like to assure you that this process will be executed meticulously putting the interest of our staff, customers and shareholders at the centre,” Awori said in a statement.

Furthermore, the bank has also referred its customers to its mobile banking options and assured them that despite the closures the agency still has several banking outlets and ATMs in close proximity.
