The Barclays Bank of Kenya has reserved Sh65 million in an attempt to target 430 undergraduate students in local universities.
The Sh65 million is part of a scholarship program which would see every student receive Sh150,000 during the 2017/2018 academic year.
Barclays has teamed up with Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) who will be distributing the funds on the bank’s behalf.
According to Barclays managing director Jeremy Awori the scholarship is part of a Sh12.5 billion Pan African initiative and is set to run for the next three years in the 10 countries that Barclays Africa operates.
“This is the culmination of a journey that has seen our citizenship programme evolve from philanthropy to the current strategic business approach under our shared growth agenda,” said Mr Awori.
Beneficiaries of the scholarships will be taken from all 47 counties.
