Phase one of the Sh2.7 billion Baricho Water Project in the Coast region will be completed next month.
State Department for Water Principal Secretary Fred Segor says the project is expected to address the perennial water shortages in Mombasa, Kilifi and Malindi Counties.
The Baricho Water Project was scheduled to be completed in July this year but did not meet the intended deadline.
The government has however now assured that phase one of the project will be completed in December this year.
State Department for Water Principal Secretary Fred Segor says the project is expected to ensure steady water supply to more than 200,000 residents in Malindi, Kilifi and Mombasa Counties, where Mombasa County will have a dedicated waterline that will pump up to 50,000 cubic meters of water daily to the coastal city.
The project which is in final stages will include the sinking of new wells and the setting up of water treatment facilities at Baricho Water Works at a tune of Sh570 million.
