Kanu leaders have faulted Deputy President William Ruto, for allegedly failing to address insecurity issues in the North Rift region.

Led by chairman Baringo senator Gideon Moi, they said Ruto had failed in ensuring residents in Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Samburu and Turkan, live in peace, following frequent banditary attacks.

So far, unconfirmed reports indicate more than ten people have been killed by bandits in the region, including a teacher, chief, mother and her three-days old infant, and two politicians in Baringo.

"He has failed to ensure people in this region live in unity, yet he calls himself a leader with people's concerns. How can people continue dying yet we say we have a leader in government from this region? This is unacceptable,'' Moi who is Ruto's political rival, said.

Speaking when during an event to officially welcomed Elgeyo Marakwet senatorial aspirant, former Inspector General of police David Kimaiyo to Kanu, Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng'eno said Ruto had failed to ensure North Rift locals live in unity.

"How can he come here for a peace rally yet fighting continue? He came here the other day, and within 3 minutes, bullets were heard from a neighbourhood. How is this possible? We need the president to take over this issue,'' said Ng'eno.

Ruto was in Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet for a peace rally, and assured locals that more police would be deployed across affected areas.

Insecurity in the region has posed as great concern for locals, as hundreds of them flee to other areas in fear of their lives.
