A cross-section of leaders from Baringo county on Thursday resolved to support any legislation put in place aimed at taming sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) reported cases in the County.
Speaking during an event to mark 16 days of activism against gender-based violence held at Kabarnet National Museums grounds, the leaders called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to end the vice which they observed has caused untold sufferings to women, children and the disabled.
Area deputy governor Jacob Chepkwony who graced the ceremony assured that the County government is putting in place measures to prevent gender-based violence through the enactment of legislative bills such as the Baringo Sexual Harassment and Gender-Based Violence Bill.
“If there is peace in our homes, then our County and the entire nation will also be at peace,” said Chepkwony.
County executive committee (CEC) for Education, Culture, Sports and Gender Thomas Ole Nongonop said it was a high time that the county sets up a rescue center to accommodate victims of gender violence in the region.
