Deputy President William Ruto had a day to forget after being humiliated in front of his guest, President Uhuru Kenyatta in Baringo County on Monday.
Making a return to the vote rich area after being heckled in previous campaigns at Elgeyo-Marakwet and other parts, Ruto openly faced hostility from Chemolingot residents.
Trouble started when the DP endorsed senatorial aspirant Simon Chelugui of Jubilee who will be facing incumbent Gideon Moi before extending similar wishes to Tiaty MP Asman Kamama.
Shockingly, the locals snubbed Ruto and started chanting anti-Jubilee slogans with some accusing him of ‘shoot to kill’ instructions.
Earlier this year, Ruto challenged police to respond to cattle bandits by shooting them, a move that did not go down well to locals.
As a result, a number of people have since died with security agents in the region being accused of targeting innocent locals.
Throughout their trip in Baringo, Moi seemed to be the favourite of the locals despite the DP’s effort to rally for election of Jubilee candidates in various positions.
