According to the charge sheet, the barmaid; Irene Andiva was charged that on February 24, this year at Marani shopping centre in Kisii County, she stole two bottles of beer, a mobile phone, a memory card and Sh10,000 cash from her employer, Eric Oino.

The charge sheet further read that she went to her work place as usual, but disappeared shortly leaving the patrons at the club, and hid for weeks before she was arrested.

According to the bar owner, he received a call from one of the customers, and on arrival discovered that the said items were missing from the counter.

He reported the matter to Marani police station, and a manhunt for the accused was launched.

Police traced the accused to her parents’ home in Ting’a, and was taken to Marani police station where she was charged with the offence.

In mitigation, she pleaded for leniency saying that she is a mother of one, who solely depends on her for a living.

The accused was given 14 days to appeal by the ruling.
