Residents of Juja on Friday recovered nine barrels of chang’aa and molasses hidden under water.

The residents, led by the constituency officials, police and chiefs, raided a water reservoir in the area after they were tipped-off by some people who discovered the hidden alcohol while on their fishing routine.

Juja OCS Luke Odiwuor has confirmed that the police have reserved 50 litres of the recovery as exhibits against anyone caught at the scene as they are keeping watch.

“These people have been selling from the waters. They had hidden nine tanks which we have burnt,” the officer explained.

He further revealed that the police are aware of the owner of the alcohol saying that a woman alleged to have been hiding in the area, and whom the county government has been searching for in vain, has vowed to sell the illicit brew until her children finish school.

“This woman has been brewing and storing the alcohol as water in tanks over the roofs. We are aware of her whereabouts just that we are setting up strategies on how to nab her with enough evidence,” he added.

On Thursday, Kiambu Chief officer Dominic Gicheru raided the woman's homestead in Juja Town but they were unable to apprehend her as she escaped on a motorcycle.

Both officers are hunting her after she allegedly drew a gun at Juja MP Francis Munyua when he led a group of youth to raid her premises two weeks ago.
