Mr Nakoru said the closure of the bars near learning institution will help reduce the number of learners consuming alcohol.

"We have realized that many learners are consuming alcohol because it is available any time they want it. Bars near secondary, primary schools and colleges will be closed down to help reduce the number of youths dropping schools to venture into alcohol consumption," he said.

The commissioner claimed that crime has increased in the region because youths steal from their parents and locals to get money to buy alcohol.

"Crime has risen in the region because most youths who dropped school and are now drug addicts have been stealing from their parents and property belonging to the locals in the county so that they can raise money to buy alcohol. This is unacceptable and should be stopped with immediate effect. Parents are advised to work with local government officers to arrest illicit brew sellers especially those selling to school children," said Mr Nakoru.

He challenged the traders who will be affected in the crackdown to venture into other alternative businesses to earn a living.
