The county government of Garissa has been urged to shut down bars, clubs and alcohol joints operating close to schools.
Prof. William Bukosa says these are the reasons young school going children are getting into drug and substance abuse.
He adds that the dens also serve as peddling joints for drug dealers and where both the youth and students purchase the drugs.
“Some of these joints you see written wines and spirits do not only sell alcohol but are hideouts and places for selling other drugs such as bhang, kuber and other illegal drugs,” said Bukosa.
He says there is no way learning will take place when drugs are abused and easily accessed.
“These are minors who get interested or lured into such behaviors when they are exposed to them,” he added.
He says it is in accordance with the law that bars and alcohol selling joints should not be stationed close to learning institutions.
“The county government should root out all this joints to allow for a safe and conducive learning environment for students,” added Bukosa.
