Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan has put on notice bars and restaurants operating from basements of buildings

He said it is against the law and anyone who will be found will face the full force of the law.

“We have banned bars and restaurants operating at basement since they put their clients at risk since in case of emergencies there is no room for customers to escape. Any bar operating in the basement should be closed with immediate effect failure to which I will come to close it myself,” he said in Eldoret town after meeting chiefs and National Agency for the Campaign against Drug Abuse  (NACADA) officials, Tuesday.

“Such joints don’t have emergency exit and in case of an emergency, everybody will perish. Bar owners should not only mind about the profits but their clients too,” he added.

He reiterated that the county government has intensified the fight against illegal liquor and anyone who will be found consuming or selling illegal alcohol will be arrested and charged.

“I want to give stern actions to such individual that their days are numbered and we will soon come for their neck.I want to urge residents to report such individuals and we promise to deal with them ruthlessly since we cannot allow our county to be a drinking county,” noted Hassan.
