Uasin Gishu nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Flora Bartera has decried high discrimination against Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) in the county.

The MCA observes that cases of discrimination against disabled persons are still on the rise in some parts of the county.

Speaking on Thursday at Uasin Gishu County offices in Eldoret, Bartera noted many complaints of discrimination from disabled persons in the county.

She said that despite the existence of laws that protect disabled persons against discrimination the practice is on the rise.

“People Living with Disabilities are still being discriminated upon in some parts of Uasin Gishu,” she alleged.

The nominated MCA who also represents the interests of disabled persons at the Uasin Gishu Assembly urged the government to step in and protect PLWD.

“We are calling on the government to make sure that our rights and welfare as disabled persons is protected,” she said.

Bartera urged disabled persons in the county not to be intimidated. She told them (PLWDs) to seek services both at the county and the national government without fear.

She also urged disabled persons to report acts of discrimination purported against them to the authorities. The nominated MCA said that no one has a right to hurl insults or despise persons living with disabilities.
