Nakuru County police commander Hassan Barua has called on his sub-county counterparts to enhance regular police patrols in their respective backyards as a way of taming the surging levels of crime across in the county.
Speaking in Nakuru town on Thursday, Barua regretted the number of reported crimes across Nakuru in the recent past saying something has to be done as a matter of urgency so as to assure the common mwananchi of their safety.
The police boss noted that most crimes are staged in towns in the outskirts of Nakuru before the accomplishes escape through the major highway within Nakuru town.
"It becomes hard for us at the headquarters and stations within town to track down such gangsters because a majority abandon vehicles they use to facilitate their criminal activities not far from the crime scenes," he said.
"Let all of us work as a team to help secure our county for the sake of economic growth and peaceful coexistence," he added.
This comes after police gunned down two gangsters on Wednesday near Naivas Supermarket along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
According to Barua, the two; who had been trailed from Njoro where they had robbed a petrol station defied orders to stop but instead opened fire at the officers manning a roadblock.
"An AK47 rifle, 1 home made gun, a pistol, a police radio call phone and three police combat jackets were recovered but we are still on the lookout for others because it is a gang of six people," he said.
