The pain affects many joints and often on both sides of the body. Joints affected include the fingers, wrists, knees and elbows. It can not only cause pain, but also fever, weight loss, fatigue, anemia and depression. The pain worsens after periods of inactivity and lessen after moderate exercise.
Bone erosion occurs with rheumatoid arthritis.
There are several ways to deal with rheumatoid arthritis:
1. Applying heat gives relief since it helps loosen the muscles, ligaments and tendons surrounding a joint. Moist heat is preferable, for example, moist heating pad, wet towel, a shower or bath.
2.Alternating hot/cold application on the joint. Don't apply ice to the skin directly.
3.Engage in aerobic exercises.
4.Lift weights (under the guidance of a physical therapist) since it builds strength around a joint.
5. When you experience acute inflammation and pain, get some rest or take a short nap.
There are drugs to treat rheumatoid arthritis so consult your healthcare provider.
