British American Tobacco has been told to improve on their prices to Uriri farmers who continue to languish in poverty. Uriri politician Paul Odhiambo accused BAT of frustrating farmers in the region, saying it is time they are told to improve on their services. Odhiambo said farmers toil in their farms yet BAT is taking them for a ride with some merger payments. He said the duration the payment is effected is too long for farmers to endure and want BAT to improve on payment duration. He said farmers are unable to send their children to school in time since BAT has failed to give payment in time. “BAT must improve on their services to allow our farmers to enjoy their sweat. This idea of giving lip services to our people must stop,” he said. Odhiambo told BAT to establish more picking points for tobacco leaves to give farmers easy time to deliver their produce. He said closing the picking points across the constituency is hurting farmers who have to trek long distances to deliver their tobacco leaves to Oyani centre. The politician said after the delivery of the tobacco leaves, farmers are again forced to make endless trips looking for their payments.
