This is according to the Competition Authority of Kenya, which is still undertaking investigations following complaints on social media.

According to the clients, mostly parents who were taking their children to school this January, they did not get value for their money from the company, which is the most preferred shoe provider for students.

The buyers took to social media to express their frustrations of shoes getting torn after being worn, some after only a day of use.

Bata, on its Facebook pages has issued a statement, saying there is a team that has been assigned to look into the issue, and to identify the batch or batches with the problem.

The matter attracted the attention of the Competition Authority of Kenya, which picked up the complaints on social media and began investigations.

If found culpable, the Limuru based company can be forced to reimburse customers the full cost of the affected shoes, replace them an recall the entire batch that is found to be sub-standard.

It will however expose itself to a maximum of 10 percent of its annual sales if it fails to take the remedial measures according to the newly enacted competition law.

The law empower the CAK to apply certain remedial measures including offering a refund to the customers or repair of goods.
