Political temperatures are soaring up in Soy Constituency as 17 aspirants fight for the Jubilee party ticket ahead of the party primaries.
History will be repeating itself like when the outspoken politician the late Chelagat Mutai defeated 11 men to become the MP for Eldoret North during her first term in 1974.
Uasin Gishu County Women representative Eusilah Jepkosgei Ng’eny is the only woman facing 16 men aspirants for the Jubilee ticket.
Among the front runners are Ng’eny, former JAP Deputy chairman Caleb Kositany, Kuppet vice chairman Julius Korir, Felix Chirchir and Ezekiah Kosgei.
The entry of Ng’eny into the parliamentary contest has heightened the campaigns for the ticket being viewed as having a upper hand owing to her experience in the leadership.
Ng’eny who is married to the former Olympic 1500m champion Noah Ng’eny is a former Eldoret Municipal Deputy Mayor after being elected as a councillor before winning the Women MP seat for the county in 2013.
She initiated projects together with her husband Ng’eny while on the national sports leadership a move that gained her popularity earning her the elective posts.
According to her, she decided to give an opportunity to more women in leadership so that she could wade into the male dominated field.
“With my experience, I saw it good to give another woman a chance to become a women MP of the county so that we can increase the number of women in leadership. For me I will fight with the men whom with God’s help I will emerge victorious,” Eusilah said.
She is the second woman to enter the male dominated Eldoret North after the outspoken Chelagat Mutai.
Mutai beat 11 other men contestants to win the Eldoret North Parliamentary seat and history has repeated itself with Eusilah facing 16 other constestants.
Korir on the other hand is a trade unionists seeking to capitalise on the support after being on the Kuppet leadership.
