After many weeks of searching for a Women Representative candidate in Mombasa, Asha Mohamed Hussein will now fly the ODM Party flag in the August contest.
The nominated MCA floored her nearest rival Sadaf Deen by a convincing margin having garnered 17,000 votes against her opponent's 8,778 in the just concluded party primaries.
Hamis Zaja came a distant third with just 3,590 votes.
The announcement comes after the party conducted its nominations exercise in three constituencies namely Kisauni, Changamwe and Jomvu on Saturday.
The exercise had earlier been marred with violence in the three constituencies, culminating in the arrest of Chamgamwe MP Omar Mwinyi.
Asha Hussein's win officially sets a bruising political contest as she will face other opponents with her nearest challenger tipped to be Wiper Party's ZamZam Mohamed, Jubilee's Amina Abdallah and veteran politician and human rights activist Maimuma Mwidau.
The seat is currently held by Mishi Mboko who will not be defending her seat as she will be battling it out with others for the Likoni parliamentary seat having trounced her only opponent Hamisi Domoko in the party primaries.
