Speaking at Young Farmers Tree planting forum in Kisumu on Monday, Nyanza Regional Young Farmers Coordinator, Francis Mutie said terrorist attacks was an issue of national concern.

“I urge teachers to ensure that all visitors entering their schools and parents are thoroughly screened,” said Mutie.

Mutie said teachers need to be alert and monitor behavior changes among students.

He said three students were recently arrested in Siaya and police are still hunting for one who escaped from Maseno School.

“The boy, a form two student, disappeared after he was reported of luring his brother to join a terrorist gang,” said Mutie.

He further urged business men to be watchful since strangers can plant explosives near their premises.

“We are glad that the government has started putting new infrastructure, including establishing police posts within the universities as a way of preventing terrorist attack,” added Mutie.

At the same time, he advised parents to take care of their children.

He said plans are underway to introduce basic security precaution training skills in all primary and secondary schools.

“We are working with schools to be on high alert through constant checks and screening,” remarked Mutie.

The coordinator advised students to scatter in different directions to minimize chances of being attacked in case of danger
