Nakuru County Assistant Chief Fire and Rescue Officer Lawrence Matoke has told the area residents to exercise extra care to prevent fire outbreaks that are vulnerable during this dry season.

Matoke who was also in charge of training during a fire and rescue training workshop attended by employees of local security companies at Kunste Hotel ton Friday, said that dry season is known to be a major cause of fire in the country and urged Nakuru residents to take extra care to prevent loses that are caused by fire.

In particular, the fire expert urged residents who reside near natural environments like forests, parks and farms to avoid careless handling of fire objects like cigarette stubs, matchboxes and burning wood as such are known to cause fire.

“This dry season is very notorious in causing fire. I urge Nakuru residents to avoid careless handling of fire objects that can result to damages and even loss of lives,’’ said Matoke.

He noted that the Nakuru Fire and Rescue Department has been involved in more than ten serious fire outbreaks in the county since the beginning of the dry season in December.
