Residents have been urged to be extra cautious when crossing areas where rains water has accumulated, the Meteorological department has warned.

In  a telephone interview with a local radio station, the Assistant Director in charge of Public Weather Services Nicholas Maingi said on Saturday the current rains are normal usually experienced every end of March and towards May.

He dismissed claims that the heavy rains were El Nino.

He observed that the rains are yet to continue in the coming days therefore warning people living in flood prone areas to vacate to avoid natural disasters.

This comes after the tragic incidence where a building collapsed Friday night in Huruma, Nairobi next to Buthia club.

However, the Kenya Red Cross search and rescue team responded swiftly.

According, Red Cross, approximately 800 households were affected in Mukuru Kayaba, Land Mawe and Kinyago.
