A government official has asked Gusii governors to set out clear development agenda to achieve meaningful development at the end of their terms. Moturi Asati, the director of Government Marketing Development Department, said it is the responsibility of Kisii governor James Ongwae and his Nyamira counterpart John Nyagarama to set the agenda that will be beneficial to the people they represent. Asati further said that Kenya accomplished it agenda 18 months after independence through the Session Paper of 1965 on African socialism, which detailed how Kenya was to be run. He said the governors should follow that example and set agenda on how the region will look like in five,10 or 15 years. “What we are witnessing is political squabbles on a daily basis in these counties instead of development based engagement," said Asati. “By inviting all people, stakeholders and leaders from all quarters to make a contribution on how they will be engaged in developing the region, we will forge ahead,” he added. According to Asati, at the end of the governors’ five-year terms, it might be hard to track their achievements if the agenda is not well set and testing political muscles will be a thing of the past if citizens feel included in developing their counties.
