Speaking at Eldoret town on Thursday, Senator Melly urged the youths to be part of the change the government is rooting for.

He stated that young people are the pillars of the society, and that they should be active on matters that touch on society.

“Our youths should come out and support the various peace initiatives being conducted by the national and the county governments,” he said.

Melly noted that young people have an important part to play in development of the society.

He stated that for a long time, youths were sidelined in key activities of the government, but they now have a chance to give their ideas.

Senator Melly added that unity and stability of the county depends on the willingness of the youth to take part in peace caravans.

The senator observed that youths in cattle prone areas are being used to fight and engage in crime.

“Unless we engage our youths in development, they will continue to be used as agents of violence,” he warned.

Senator Melly urged both the national and the county government to push for more youth empowerment programmes.
