A section of the clergy have appealed to politicians and Kenyans to accept the outcome of the August 8 general election.
The clerics further appealed for political tolerance and peace during this electioneering period.
Speaking under the auspices of the Evangelical and Pentecostal Churches of Kenya, chairman Mark Kariuki said hooliganism and political intolerance between the National Super Alliance (NASA) and Jubilee supporters should be tamed as it could result in chaos.
“We should show tolerance to other people’s opinions and choices during this electioneering period,” said Kariuku on Tuesday as quoted by the Star.
Kariuki who was accompanied by head of Redeemed Gospel Church Bishop Arthur Kitonga and other clerics, also wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to test the voting equipment ahead of the polls to prevent a crisis on the D-Day.
According to the clerics, this will ensure the kits are credible to deliver a free, fair and credible election.
Kariuki further stated that adequate preparations by the commission for the forthcoming exercise will also instill confidence in Kenyans.
“Credible polls cannot be realised if the IEBC isn’t doing its job effectively. The commissioners were given those positions to conduct transparent elections and that is why they should scrutinise these materials,” said Kariuki.
