Kiambu Women Rep, Ann Nyokabi, has warned teachers of harassing the state over pay rise.
Nyokabi supported Labour Cabinet Secretary, Kazungu Kambi, of not increasing teachers salary.
She said that teachers should stop mistreating learners from public institution saying the government has a squeezed budget to accomplish its manifesto.
“This is mistreating both the children and government and thus teachers should consider their decision,” said Nyokabi.
This comes as the Attorney General, Githu Muigai, told the court that any salary and allowances raise to teachers would hurt the economy.
The AG said the salary increase demanded by teachers will require Sh591.7 billion from the tax payers and subsequently increase the wage bill to Sh808.1 billion.
The TNA legislator Nyokabi who was speaking on Wednesday when she visited Karai and Ndeiya insisted that the economy of the country is at risk and the request by the teachers will have a negative impact in Kenya.
She said that the hiking of the teacher’s salary should be reviewed after 2017 since the government’s is not in a position to implement their demands.
