Teachers from Kisii County have been challenged to be good role models to their students,to inspire them work hard and excel in their education and professional careers.

Kisii County Director of Education, Richard Chepkawai has underscored the importance of teachers embracing good moral values and dedication to their teaching career for their students to emulate them.

Speaking at Itierio Evangelical Church of Kenya (ELCK) grounds during Itierio Boys High School's education day event, Chepkawai challenged teachers to use their noble profession in moulding their learners into responsible future citizens.

“I am challenging teachers to be good role models to their learners, so that they can be emulated as good examples in the society for continuity and posterity of the education profession,” stated Chepkawai

He also challenged parents to take their parental responsibilities seriously, and stop abdicating their roles to teachers who get overwhelmed with their teaching duties and disciplinary issues relating to their learners.

During the ceremony, the school principal Anrew Otara, announced that 55 boys who sat for their KCSE national examinations have qualified for direct university entry.

"I take this opportunity to also salute our teachers for taking their time and energy to prepare our last year's candidates for the KCSE examinations, the results which we are celebrating today," stated Otara.

He further disclosed that the school's mean score improved from 2013's 6.8 to last year's 7.5, translating into a positive deviation of 0.928.
