This comes few days after students from departments of Health Sciences, Law and Pure and Applied sciences expressed their concerns through a peaceful demonstration before being addressed by Vice Chancellor Prof. John Akama.

But on Thursday, affected students criticized the administration for communication trivial matter through a memo without making it a University policy in the Senate.

“What the management is doing is just playing old tactics of divide and rule. You cannot change or lower fee through just a memo. You have to assure us senate had sat and deliberated on the issue beyond reasonable doubt,” said Mbaka Bwo’mwando.

“It is clear in their recent advertisement in national dailies on intake, the fee structure remained unaltered contrary to our agreement,” he added referring to advertisement of intake published by The Standard on Wednesday.

However, DVC Prof. Maurice Amutabi has defended the management from criticism saying the fee policy on the advertisement targeted only in coming students.

“The circular on the national daily was meant for those supposed to join as first years and has nothing to do with continuing students. This must not be confused by our students,” he said.

Under the new structure, self-sponsored students in the aforementioned faculties will pay up 180,000kshs per academic year.

End.
