Thika East Education and Children Services Officer Nelly Karanja has asked parents in the area to be extra vigilant on their children this December to prevent cases of children disappearance.

Speaking in her office at Thika East sub-county headquarters in Kilimambogo, Karanja noted that many cases of children disappearing are usually recorded during this month.

"We urge parents to heighten their vigilance over their young children to ensure that they are safe at all times. This is the only way to minimise or eliminate cases of children disappearance here during this month," said Karanja.

The children's officer also advised that children should not be allowed to interact with strangers without the presence of an adult known to them.

"Being a festive season, we have so many strangers coming into this area for different reasons like selling Christmas gifts, clothes and so on. Children should not be allowed to interact freely with such people as some may have ulterior motives," she added.

Karanja said cases of children disappearing should be reported to the police and also her office as soon as possible for a search to be initiated.
