Nyamira County Commissioner Joseph Rotich has cautioned members of the public to be wary of fraudsters going round claiming to be registering internally displaced persons to be compensated by the government.
Rotich said Tuesday the exercise to register IDPs was closed in 2009 and anybody purporting to be registering IDPs now is doing so for their own selfish gain.
"We have received information about conmen going around asking people up to Sh5,000 in the name of assisting them to be on the list of those who will be compensated by the government," said Rotich.
He said police have launched investigations in a bid to arrest the culprits.
There have been complaints from IDPs from the region who claim they were sidelined in the government compensation.
