As the planting season approaches, farmers in Nakuru County have been cautioned against falling victims to people selling fake seeds and fertilisers.
Speaking on Thursday in Nakuru town, Nakuru County Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development deputy executive Purity Muritu warned residents of the people distributing fake farming products.
“It is our duty as a ministry to ensure that farmers get access to good seeds and fertilisers so that they get good produce. I appeal to all stakeholders including agro vet dealers and extension officers to be on the lookout,’’ said Muritu.
The county government official further argued that local farmers were not exposed to enough information on how to expand and improve their agricultural ventures due to lack of links and efforts from stakeholders.
Muritu called for a more aggressive agricultural extensions network in the county aimed at empowering farmers.
She however noted that some stakeholders were deliberately colluding with counterfeit agricultural goods producers and suppliers to dupe farmers.
