Kitutu Masaba parliamentary hopeful Victor Swanya believes the steady rise of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is a wake-up call for former VP Kalonzo Musyoka in terms of the 2022 presidential race.
Governor Joho single-handedly organised two mega meetings within ten days which were well attended by ODM leaders and fans in Mombasa and Nairobi respectively.
And on Tuesday, Swanya said Joho’s rise could be an impediment to Kalonzo’s 2022 chances and challenged him to start touring the country.
“Kalonzo should be wary of Joho’s steady rise in the ODM. It’s a tactical move which could hinder his 2022 chances given Raila is likely to be the Cord flag-bearer in 2017. He should start touring the country and spearheading more rallies,” he said.
“To be relevant in politics, you must be visible. Joho is a major threat to Kalonzo and the former VP should take that serious. The Governor is a go-getter and if he wants the presidency, he will go for it. This is truly the moment when Kalonzo should fight for his chance,” he said.
Regarding the ongoing rebellion in Kalonzo’s Ukambani strongholds, Swanya urged the Wiper leader to de-whip errant MPs.
“When your juniors undermine you it means something is wrong somewhere. He should not be soft on the MPs and time has come for him to take action,” he said.
