National soccer team Harambee Stars players have been advised to be wary of opportunists who could be out to milk them dry following their cash windfall that proceeded their Cecafa senior challenge success.Former Kenyan international Boniface Ambani through his Facebook page advised Stars' players to be on the lookout against the infamous 'slayqueens' whom he says never let go of an opportunity to reap from where they never sow."Windfall for Harambee Stars players.Congratulations are in order. Great job done. The windfall is here. But wait a minute my juniors. This is the time maboyz wa mtaa (estate friends) will hang around you like no one's business, " he posted.
"It's time your friends' girlfriends will be close to her and the end results it's you who will finance everything. It's an era of something called Slay queens. You know who they are. They have been there before, it's just that they acquired a new name.We used to call them MaOpportunists," he went on.
Stars defeated Zanzibar 3-2 on post-match penalties to bag their seventh Cecafa title last Sunday and what followed was an outpouring of commendations and cash awards. The awards saw president Uhuru Kenyatta give the team Ksh 10 million while his deputy William Ruto gave out Ksh 5 million.
Gambling giants Sportpesa gave out Ksh 3 million while governors Mike Sonko and Alfred Mutua all gave Ksh 1 million each.
Tuskys supermarket was not left behind in honouring the team and they gave all the players shopping vouchers.
The tournament prize money totaling Ksh 3 million also came in handy to make the players' festive season worthwhile.
