Gatundu North traffic commandant Amos Mwau has sounded a warning to all unlicensed Saccos in the region saying they will not be allowed to operate.
Mwau noted that Matatu operators had reported the existence of unregistered Saccos in Kamwangi which he said is under investigation. He noted that unregistered Saccos may operate illegal businesses as well as squandering member’s money without questioning.
"It is also my duty to halt chaos that may emerge on our roads by ensuring all Saccos are registered. I am engaging with the national Sacco Regulatory Authority to ensure all Saccos within my region of work are fully compliant with the law. I last week received a complaint from some of the operators citing existence of none registered Sacco something that we are still investigation," said Mwau.
He urged the national Sacco regulatory authority to move with speed and work responsibly towards eliminating such vehicles from operations saying that members could easily be exploited by unregistered Saccos.
Mwau revealed that only seven Saccos in Kamwangi town were registered saying that a crackdown would be done to flash out unregistered Saccos.
He urged the residents to only join registered Saccos and save in them to avoid losing their money to fraudsters.
Speaking from his office, Mwau further warned Matatu operators who do not observe the set traffic rules vowing to eliminate them from operating in his jurisdiction.
