The contest for the Kisauni constituency MP seat in 2017 has gained grip following the entry of businessman Ali Mbogo into the race.
Mbogo, who on Wednesday accompanied ODM party leader Raila Odinga to Germany is expected to challenge current MP Rashid Bedzimba.
Bedzimba is a close ally to Governor Hassan Joho who is Mr Odinga's deputy.
The decision by Raila to invite Mbogo to Germany has sent shivers to MP Bedzimba's camp.
He is said to have planned a series of meetings to analyse the implications of the Germany trip.
Bedzimba was elected Kisauni MP in 2013 on an ODM ticket.
He took over the seat from Mr Joho who held the it between 2007 and 2013.
Mbogo skipped the September 10, ODM '10 At 10' celebrations in Mombasa.
Bedzimba attended the event.
Mbogo and Bedzimba have been criticising each other as the battle for the 2017 seats draws near.
